SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN
SEE THE OFFERING I remember back in the 80s saying to Jasper Johns while we were both lunching at DaSilvano, not at the same table of course, “I know what it is to take an idea and beat it to death.“ I had a lot of nerve. I don’t remember which project I was working on at that time, but I can tell you I’m taking an idea and beating it to death now.
I’m a TV addict. The repetitive image in the SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN collection is my TV. It kind of looks like a mitochondria with legs, but it’s my TV. March 23 laying on my bed watching TV I took the original image with my phone. And then the fear set in. Three months later I learned to live with the fear. What did I do with those three months? Not much; most of it’s a blur. I have made it through with a small body of work that I wish to celebrate my impending 3/4 of a century. I used to be proud to be born on July 4. At this time I am ashamed of America and being an American. Our country is a disaster: our horrendous republican “leaders” are criminals and don’t care about humanity or the planet. I am proud of our protesters. This small body of work titled SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN tells something of my story. The TV is my window on the world. Black-and-white, black-and-white. YES BLACK LIVES DO MATTER. The red surrounding the images is blood, blood on the hands of the unbearable forces out there murdering people. Golden threads reminding us that SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN. Yes, it’s hard to wear a mask, but how dare I say “I can’t breathe.” |
I offer each one-of-a kind prints (each of a kind will differ in placement/gold thread embellishment), $100 each.
Free Shipping (USA only) May the force stay with us. Better luck next year. Thank you Merlin. Ellen SEE THE OFFERING |
